The Chief Emergency Planning Officer (CEPO) is responsible for management of the Emergency Planning Unit (EPU) which provides an emergency planning service to the five Metropolitan District Councils in Tyne and Wear (
Sunderland, Newcastle, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Gateshead). This service includes plan production, maintenance, training and exercising.
Under European derived and UK legislation
the EPU is also responsible for the preparation and maintenance
of Emergency Plans for certain major hazard pipelines and
chemical sites.
These arrangements are developed in conjunction with a wide range of relevant partner organisations including the Emergency Services, Local Authorities, Utilities, Voluntary Organisations etc.
The CEPO is supported by a team of officers who cover a wide range of responsibilities in relation to the above. Details of staff portfolios are listed below.
