Emergency Plans

Emergency Plans
The main planning role of the Emergency Planning Unit (EPU) is to develop and maintain a wide range of both generic and specialist Major Incident Plans.

  • These plans are designed to assist the Local Authorities (LA) Incident Response Team in their efforts to mitigate the effects of any emergency or disaster involving destruction of or danger to life or property within Tyne and Wear, whilst ensuring that as far as possible the LA can continue its normal day-to-day functions.
  • Tyne and Wear Emergency Planning Unit, in close liaison with the 5 Constituent Councils of Tyne and Wear (and a broad range of other agencies, including the Emergency Services) write and maintain broadly generic Major Incident Plans and procedures, across all Council Directorates and departments which will enable Councils to most effectively coordinate their resources to minimize the effect of a Major Incident on the citizens of the Tyne and Wear area.
  • From whatever quarter of the threat compass the next Major Incident comes from, there are always common factors which all agencies can prepare for. All Major incident response relies heavily upon a well understood, practiced set of coordinated procedures and Plans across all responding organizations.
