Emergency Plans - Ports
of Tyne and Sunderland
The Port of Tyne
The
Port of Tyne is a modern trust port located on the North East coast
of England and provides deepwater river berths dredged to 10.5m
(LAT), 5km from the open sea, providing "lock-free" access
for deep-sea vessels.
The Port offers a comprehensive handling service for forest products,
steel and metals, cars, and bulk products. A deepwater container
terminal with an adjacent secure storage facility provides storage
for up to 3200 TEU’s with rail access. A modern passenger
terminal handles regular ferry services to Northern Europe and Scandinavia
with in excess of 820,000 passengers.
The Port of Sunderland
The Port of Sunderland is a short-sea specialist. Quick despatch of vessels has earned it the respect of many operators.
The Port's growing portfolio of customers both in the northern region of the UK and elsewhere is recognition of their ability to compete with their bigger neighbours. By producing service packages that are delivered consistently to ISO 9001:2000 standards, the Port of Sunderland has achieved preferred supplier status with a surprising number of household names.
Emergency
Planning Liaison
The
Ports of Tyne and Sunderland Emergency Plans are intended to provide
a framework which can draw together the various resources required
to deal with any emergency which may occur within the jurisdiction
of the Port Authority including the seaward approaches and thereby:-
- Minimise loss of life and extent of damage, and provide for
the safety of navigation through the port;
- Ensure that all concerned are warned immediately;
- Ensure that rescue services and emergency services are deployed
as quickly as possible;
- Provide effective co-operation and liaison between marine and
shore authorities concerned.
