Environmental Issues
The Environment
Agency (EA) employ over 10,000 people working in diverse areas
such as flood defence, pollution control, town planning, farming
and waste management. Our area of responsibility covers all of England
and Wales and we work closely with local communities to achieve
results.
EA activities range from influencing Government policy and regulating
major industries nationally, right through to day-to-day monitoring
and clean up operations at a local level
The Environment Agency is divided into eight regions:
- Southern
- Thames
- South West
- Midlands
- Anglian
- North West
- North East
- Environment Agency Wales
North East Region Information
Stretching from the tip of Derbyshire, right up to the Scottish
border, the region is diverse and interesting. From large industrial
centres to rolling countryside, culturally diverse and booming cities
to small, rural hamlets, rocky coastlines to quiet beaches, the
North East presents a challenge to the EA, who are charged with
protecting this precious environment for present and future generations.
The EA continue to work closely with industry to monitor emissions
and bring about continuing improvements. Fisheries officers monitor
fish populations and work hard with other Agency departments to
help clean up the region's rivers. Flood warning and flood defence
teams are continually striving to improve the warning service and
bring about improved protection for communities at risk of flooding
Each Environment Agency region has its own set of web pages, containing
regional information and contacts, regular news bulletins and a
number of more in-depth features.
